Advising Resources for Students and Faculty

On this page, you will find resources for students seeking internships, for advisees and students needing general information, and for part-time faculty looking for departmental teaching resources.

Internships & Career Advice

Please note: Dr. Melissa Gaeke at the Center for Civic Engagement is the new internship coordinator for English & theatre students, effective fall 2017.

Each of the buttons below will take you to files or website resources.

This is the Twitter feed that I run for our department. It contains nothing but job and internship listings and information about on-campus career events.

These five files are advice sheets that I have developed for English majors, but they're applicable no matter what you choose as a major.

Career Services has many resources on their website. Be certain to register for FoxQuest, and browse the subscription databases.

Office Hours

My spring semester 2019 office hours will be Mondays & Wednesdays 2:00-4:00 and Thursdays 10-11, while classes are in session. These are drop-in hours with no sign-up needed.

Please check your syllabi for your current professors’ office hours.

The School of Liberal Arts office also has a complete list of all full-time SLA faculty office hours for each semester (845-575-3295) or drop by FN 200 when you’re in the building.

Department chairs hold additional hours during the first week of the semester and during registration periods.

Campus Resources:

Recommendation Letter Requests: Letters that you requested when you were applying to college or to small programs on campus often differ significantly from letters that you will need for graduate school, some internship programs, and occasional jobs. Please use the file below to help you help me sell you to these highly competitive experiences.

Faculty Resources

Below are links to commonly requested documents and resources, which are also available on the department Sharepoint site. Please be advised that some are behind the Marist firewall.

This is the English Department's part-time faculty handbook. Marist's Full-time and part-time faculty handbooks can be found on the Marist Faculty landing site.

Looking for sample syllabi from Marist courses? Please contact Julie in the SLA office.

Contract questions? Please contact Lisa.

Commonly needed Marist forms and sites:

Online course scheduling requests will be sent out via email. FT faculty, please search your email for "airtable" and PT faculty, please search for "cognito" and those terms should bring up the emails I've sent with the links. I'd put them here, but we'll all get spammed.
